Belgium v Panama Preview

Belgium take on Panama in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup on June 18th at The Fisht Stadium, and sportsbooks offer the best odds on Belgium to win this Group G fixture.

Belgium and Panama have never actually played each other, and it will be interesting to see how the underdogs fair against Belgium who are one of the top seeds in the competition.

Belgium

Although Belgium have made 12 appearances in the World Cup, they've never made it further than the quarter-finals, and will be determined to at least make it to the semi-finals in Qatar.

Belgium continued their winning streak with impressive victories over Saudi Arabia and Japan in their pre World Cup friendlies, and look great coming into the competition.

Luckily for coach Martinez, Belgium haven’t been drawn in an extremely challenging qualifying group and they’re expected to advance through to the next round.

England will prove to be their biggest threat in the group, but sportsbooks odds suggest they should easily beat Panama in their first match of the 2022 World Cup.

With a raft of world-class players, a win against Panama is pretty much a given, and would put Belgium in a strong position to top their qualifying group and progress to the Round of 16.

Panama

Panama made history when they qualified for their first ever World Cup in Qatar, however nobody is expecting any major success from Hernan Dario Gomez’s squad.

They may have secured a victory in their last match against Trinidad and Tobago, but it was their first win since they beat Costa Rica in the CONCACAF qualifying match back in October 2017, and they may struggle in the World Cup.

Unfortunately, Panama have been drawn in a pretty tough qualifying group, and facing Belgium in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup will be a massive challenge.

There’s also the fact that Panama have a much older squad than most and so they could struggle to keep up with the speed and skill of younger teams.

Although sportsbooks offer Belgium as the favourite to win this fixture, there’s always a tiny chance the underdogs could turn it around and steal a win.
