Switzerland at World Cup 2022

  • MANAGER: Vladimir Petkovic
  • CAPTAIN: Stephan Lichtsteiner
  • FIFA RANKING: 8
  • APPEARANCES: 10
  • WORLD CUP WINS: 0

Switzerland made it through to their 4th successive World Cup appearance in Qatar, having beaten Northern Ireland on aggregate to finish 2nd in their qualifying group.

Petkovic’s men have reached the round of 16 in the last 2 World Cup’s, and they will be determined to go even further in the 2022 competition.

The Swiss team are ranked 8th in the world, but are more of a functional team that could struggle in World Cup Group E against the mighty Brazil as well as Serbia and Costa Rica.

Brazil will be an extremely tough opponent, and it’s expected that it will come down to Switzerland and Costa Rica to take the second qualifying place.

Under Petkovic, Switzerland made it through to the last 16 at UEFA Euro 2016 and they have high hopes for their performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

There are some great players in the Switzerland squad, and they'll need Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka on form if they want to take the runner up spot abd advance to the next round.
