Peru at World Cup 2022

  • MANAGER: Ricardo Gareca
  • CAPTAIN: Paolo Guerrero
  • FIFA RANKING: 11
  • APPEARANCES: 4
  • WORLD CUP WINS: 0

Peru have finally ended their 36-year World Cup drought by qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

It hasn’t been an easy road for Peru, with a 5th place finish in the South American qualifying rounds, and only advancing from a 2-0 victory against New Zealand in the play-off.

Gareca’s squad is made up of solid older members alongside younger talented players, but the question remains whether they'll be strong enough to beat France, Denmark and Australia.

Peru don’t have as much experience at this level of football, but players like Jefferson Farfán, Renato Tapia, Andy Polo and Yordy Reyna, will be key to their campaign in Qatar 2022.

Peru may be seen as the weakest team in World Cup Group C, but if Australia lose their opening game to France, then they'll be in with a better chance of making it through.

Without a doubt, this will be a tough group for Peru to progress through, but they will be determined to fight for their spot in the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup!
