Argentina at World Cup 2022

  • MANAGER: Jorge Sampaoli
  • CAPTAIN: Lionel Messi
  • FIFA RANKING: 4
  • APPEARANCES: 16
  • WORLD CUP WINS: 2

Argentina come into the 2022 World Cup as one of the favourites to win the competition.

The South American powerhouse already have 2 World Cup titles under their belt, and only missed out on their 3rd title in the 2014 tournament when they lost to Germany in extra time.

Their qualification to Qatar hasn’t been quite as straight forward, and Sampaoli’s squad were in danger of missing the competition for the first time since 1970.

Luckily Messi saved the day with a hat-trick against Ecuador, which took Argentina through.

The Albiceleste’s have been drawn in World Cup Group D and will compete against Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria to qualify for the next stage of the tournament.

If they are on form they should easily progress through the group stages, especially with the impressive combo of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero in the line up.
